Driver compatibility and version checking

A compatible driver must match more than a product family. Check the hardware ID or exact model, Windows or Linux release, 32- or 64-bit architecture, and sometimes the computer manufacturer's customization. A larger version number does not by itself make a package suitable.

Start with the operating system and the hardware maker's support documentation. Record the current version before changing it, create a practical recovery path, and change one device at a time. Do not force an unsigned, wrong-model, or unsupported package merely because setup can be bypassed.

Android BootROM and ADB USB modes

An Android device can expose different USB identities in normal operation, ADB, fastboot, recovery, and chipset BootROM modes.
